Acapulco
Acapulco has been synonymous with beach fun in Mexico since the mid-20th century, when figures like Frank Sinatra, Elizabeth Taylor, and John F. Kennedy put it on the world map. La Quebrada, where professional cliff divers leap from 35-meter cliffs into a narrow sea inlet, remains one of the country's most thrilling spectacles and is performed several times daily. The Fort of San Diego, built in the 17th century to defend the port from pirates, now houses the Acapulco Historical Museum. Pie de la Cuesta, northwest of the bay, offers the most spectacular sunsets along the entire Mexican Pacific coast over Coyuca Lagoon. The Diamante zone, in the southern part, concentrates luxury resorts and golf courses. Thursday pozole nights are a Guerrero tradition every visitor should experience, with green, white, or red pozole accompanied by tostadas, chicharrón, and mezcal.
