San Cristóbal de las Casas
San Cristóbal de las Casas, at 2,200 meters altitude in the Chiapas highlands, is one of Mexico's most magical cities. Its cobblestone streets, colorful houses, and bohemian atmosphere attract travelers from around the world. The city is the gateway to the indigenous communities of San Juan Chamula and Zinacantán, where ancestral traditions coexist with Catholicism. The Na Bolom center preserves the history of the Lacandón people, while the artisan market offers hand-embroidered textiles and Chiapas amber. Highland Chiapas coffee is considered among Mexico's finest.
