Chiapas is one of Mexico's most biodiverse and culturally rich states. Palenque: Mayan City in the Jungle

Arrive at 8 am to avoid heat and crowds. Visit the Temple of the Inscriptions (Pakal's tomb), the Palace with its observation tower, and the Group of the Crosses. Walk jungle trails to the Temple of the Jaguar and Otulum stream waterfalls. Entry: $90 MXN ($5 USD).
